Client Privacy and Security
I collect information from you that is necessary for the provision of services, which includes such details a name, contact information, and billing information needed for payment. I may keep notes about our conversations as well as copies of our relevant electronic communication. I will not share your information with anyone without your express permission, except in (very) rare situations where disclosing it is required by law. I do not use any subcontractors that would have access to your private information.
I treat the material you share with me for my editing, writing, collaborative, or other services with the utmost regard for its confidentiality. I take steps to protect your personal information from loss, theft, and unauthorized access. Electronic files are stored on my password protected computer and/or external drive. No one other than me has my passwords. External drives are stored in a safe or locked cabinet, and I am the only one with the code and key. Physical files are stored in a locked filing cabinet, and I have the only key. If you require any of your information that is in my possession to be destroyed for security or confidentiality reasons, please make this request in writing to Marianne@wiseowlwordsmithing.ca.
Occasionally, I will ask clients if I may use their information for testimonials, marketing information, or for use in my blog. Agreeing to this is completely voluntary. I will keep a record of our agreement on the usage of your information. You may revoke your consent at any time with written notice to Marianne@wiseowlwordsmithing.ca.
Accessibility
I expect my services to be equally accessible to all people, regardless of race, religion, gender, orientation, or ability. I am always learning, so please inform me if I make an error in how I communicate or interact with you or others. If you make use of assistive devises, alternate methods of communication, a support person, or a service animal, I am happy to adapt to best meet each individual’s needs.

I welcome feedback on my services. Please tell me how I’m doing – what’s working and how I can improve.
My work should be of exceptional quality, with a high attention to detail and virtually error-free. However, I am only human. I will gladly rewrite or re-edit material that does not meet your expectations.

I am committed to providing quality information within a trusted environment. Privacy and safety issues are important to me.
The Internet contains a wealth of information, unfortunately, it may also contain personal details about you that you don’t want everyone to know. For example, your real name (lots of people on the Internet use aliases, alter egos or nicknames), street address, phone number, or e-mail address. When you go online, sites you visit may be gathering information about you without your knowledge. I strive to help my clients and users protect their privacy while using my services.

Privacy Policy
My policy is to respect and protect the privacy of my clients and users. This policy statement tells you how I collect information from you and how I use it. Using the Internet should be a fun experience and I want to help you make it so.
The information you provide for your personal account may be collected for website use as it is my goal to make your visits to my site easy and enjoyable. However, be assured that I will not disclose your personal information to any third parties without your consent. I may disclose user information in special cases when I have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) my rights or property, other clients, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. I may disclose user information when I believe in good faith that the law requires it.
I may share aggregate information about my users with advertisers, business partners, sponsors and other third parties. For example, I will say my audience is x percent females and y percent males. This data is used to customize my content and advertising to deliver a better experience for my users. I do not currently have any advertisers, business partners, or sponsors.
There are cases where I may ask you for personal information, such as your name, email, and address. For example, if you follow my blog (Thank you, that’s awesome!), I will have access to your email address for the automatic updates about new posts. I need to collect this information for fulfilling your request and tracking/verifying compliance with my policies as well as federal, provincial, and local laws and/or for editorial and feedback solicitation purposes.
I do not share this information with anyone.
In case you change your mind or some of your personal information changes (such as your contact information), I will endeavor to provide a way to correct, update, or remove the personal data you give us.
I collect standard technical information about users of my website through WordPress stats. The purpose is to give me information about how users are finding and using my site so that I can improve it. My website uses cookies and spam filters. I do not use ad services on my website.

Conflict of Interest
If, at any point, I write a blog post or article that is sponsored or has affiliate links, I will clearly identify said links or sponsorship.
Opting Out
Information provided at the time of submission from a user who is 18 years of age or over may be used for marketing and promotional purposes by me and my affiliates or companies that have been pre-screened by me. To keep you in control of your personal information and the communications directed to you, I allow you to opt-out of the following services: sharing your information in my member directory, receiving communications from me about new features or services, and receiving communications about offers from third-party companies that offer a product or service that I think would be of value to you. If a user objects to such use for any reason, they may stop that use by e-mail request (Marianne@wiseowlwordsmithing.ca).
Use of IP Address
An IP address is a number that’s automatically assigned to your computer whenever you’re surfing the Web. Web servers — the big computers that “serve up” Web pages — automatically identify your computer by its IP address.
I may collect IP addresses for the purposes of system administration, to report aggregate information to my advertisers (if/when I have any), and to audit the use of my site. When users request pages from my site, my servers may log the guests’ IP addresses. I do not normally link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable, which means that a user’s session will be logged, but the user remains anonymous to me. I can and will use IP addresses to identify a user when I feel it is necessary to enforce compliance with my house rules or terms of service or to protect my service, site, customers, or others.
Use of Cookies
What are cookies? Cookies are pieces of information that a Web site transfers to an individual’s hard drive for record-keeping purposes. Cookies make Web-surfing easier for you by saving your preferences while you’re at my site. The use of cookies is an industry standard — you’ll find them at most major Web sites. (If only it were possible to hand out fresh-baked cookies when users visit my Web site.)
By showing how and when guests use a site, cookies help me see which areas are popular and which are not. Data from cookies, such as total number of visitors and pages viewed, helps me better understand and improve areas of the service that my users find valuable. I use the information from cookies to provide services better tailored to my users’ needs.
Visitors to my site always to have the option of disabling cookies via their browser preferences. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or indicate when a cookie is being sent. I do not use cookies to gather personal information like a person’s name or e-mail address. Any information gathered using cookies is compiled on an aggregate, anonymous basis.

I place a high priority on security. My computer system uses a combination of hardware and software designed to protect against unauthorized entry and loss, theft, or misuse of personal information. Although I will make every effort to protect personal information, no computer system is immune from hackers and others who might misuse information. I am not responsible for any breach of security that is beyond my reasonable control.
Registration Forms
Personal information gathered from registration forms (such as name, email, or street address) is used to send information related to my products and services to consenting parties. When you indicate that you want to receive a product or service, or contact a person or organization, I share the data needed for you to receive what you have indicated.
Links to Other Sites
This Web site contains hyperlinks or “links” to other sites, and other sites may “link” to this site. Web sites linking to and from this site may have different privacy practices and policies from the ones described here. Visitors to my site should read the terms of use and privacy statements of other Web sites they visit. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by my Web site.
Users should be aware that when you are on my site, you could be directed to other sites that are beyond my control. There are links to other sites from my pages that take you outside my service. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data, or solicit personal information.
